Firefox is preferable from the security point of view. Contrary to what most thing, not because it is more secure than IE - it is not. Security flaws are discovered in it just as often (if not even more often) than in IE.

However, Firefox is used by fewer people - 9 of every 10 people use IE. This means that an attacker is likely to concentrate his efforts against IE - because it will give him a larger vulnerable population and a better payoff for his efforts. In that aspect, Opera is even better, because it is used by even fewer people.

In addition, both Firefox and Opera do not support ActiveX - and malicious ActiveX objects (or insecure ActiveX objects) are a major source of trouble in IE. (Admittedly, you can turn ActiveX off - but few people do that.)

If you are a SpyBotS%26amp;D user = In S%26amp;D check to make sure under tool/ie tweaks "Lock IE start page setting against user changes (current user)" is NOT checked.

You might also empty your temp internet files folder, and then go to: tools/ internet options/ general/ temp internet files/ settings/check for newest version of pages(either automatic or every time)/ok/ok.

.... And then tools/ io/ security/trusted sites/sites/add that url/ok/apply/ok, and then tools/ io/ security/trusted sites/custom level/low/ok/apply/ok , and then tools/ io/privacy/add that url/allow/ok/apply/ok

Also try tools/internet options/ clear files and cookies/ok/ok. If that doesn't fix it, try tools/internet options/advanced/scroll down to "security" and uncheck the first 3 boxes/apply/ok/ok , then

Click Start, click Run, type cmd and click OK, at the command prompt type the following commmand = ipconfig /flushdns and then hit the Enter key. Now restart the computer and see if the problem is resolved.

and then reboot your pc, then scan for spyware and/or trojan infestation.

Check PC date and time. Double click to open and make sure the time zone and daylight savings settings are also correct . Some sites block access when you have incorrect time settings.

Also, you might want to go to tools/internet options/settings - and move the slider for the amount of disk space to use for the temp internet files folder to the right some, then hit OK/OK. This might reqire a restart for the new setting to take effect, but at least it may be worth a try.

To be safe, you should run antivirus active scanner and firewall to defend yourselve. Run ccleaner free to wipe all temp internet files once in a while to rid of cookies/spyware on the temp folder. Hope it helps.
Make sure that the site in question has not been placed in the Restricted Zone by some security software. Off-hand SpywareBlaster, IE-SPYAD, Spybot S%26amp;D (inmunise) and I believe Webroot Spy Sweeper place known malicous sites into IEs Restricted Zone which will prevent the use of ANY active-X. Look for the red icon at the lower right of IE.

There is a problem with some of the older Yahoo Toolbars - sounds like this problem may be a symptom. Uninstall your Yahoo Toolbar from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and the problem will most likely go away.

If you can use firefox, then its something to do with a .dll, browser extension or some setting in IE. Optimize IE by going to start, run - inetcpl.cpl.

Under browsing history, click delete, delete all,

Security tab, reset all zones to default,

Privacy tab, set to default

Programs tab - check "Make sure IE is default browser" and click make default.

Advanced, scroll down a little bit, see "Enable third party browser extensions". Uncheck it, click apply, ok and try IE.

If that doesn't work, try start, run - inetcpl.cpl, click advanced tab and click on reset under reset internet explorer settings.

Hope this works.

Goto My Yahoo and sign in, then refresh the page and then see if that works. If not, then I would think that you have messed with settings somewhere. If so, go back and re-check those settings.

I have and have used IE7 BEFORE anyone else could even come close to getting it. (If that tells you anything) and it has been working flawlessly since.

I will NEVER ( %26lt;--- see that "NEVER") go back to IE6 and I will NEVER use a browser (no names firefox mentioned) that has MORE problems then IE. It is the user that HAS to set things up JUST like the OS itself.

At your height you should be between 145-155. I am the same height and when I weighed 145 I looked to skinny. Go a bit between the two and you should be on average.

Rather than selecting the lick directly by clicking on it (which runs the program and opens the .zip file), right click on the link and select "Save As" instead. Then you can save the .zip file wherever you like, run a virus scan (highly recommended!) on it and then open it.

Check your security levels. I dont know why it would block hotmail tho. But like said..could always download Firefox/Opera..try to see if they load there, they do then you know its a setting error in IE.

If your using IE6 I strongly advise using something else..that has alot of exploits and youll get nailed even going on simple sites like meebo.

Open Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel. Select the new version of IE that you have installed and click uninstall. This should revert your Windows to the old IE.

Welll, could be your anti-spy or anti-virus is blocking it; you could try powering those down. Or, could be that your Windows isn't genuine, which would prevent the download. And, yes, consider getting Firefox. You can install it without uninstalling IE.

Do you have a firewall enabled? Maybe that's blocking it.

Go to Start, Control Panel, Security Center and try turning it off.

If it still doesn't work, make sure you turn on your firewall back afterwards.

If you don't have a hammer, you can substitute the hammer with other hard objects e.g. a hard wooden plank, a metal pillar esp. those unwanted plumbing pillars or even the back end of some hard shoes/clogs. Don't use your fav. good shoes.

But buying a hammer isn't that expensive. It will come in handy too. Else just borrow it from your neighbor %26amp; remember to include your Please %26amp; Thank You's ;)

I get the message across the top of the web page BUT the pages I create are completly blank with no scripting or active x.

I even created a new text document, labeled it "test.html" then opened it in I.E. and I still get that message.

I do NOT get that message with most internet sites and have the security settings set as the same for both Internet and Intranet.

Are you sure it's a script error? I know sometimes when a broswer dosn't know how to view a file type it will try to download it. Thus causing the little yellow box at the top saying something about security settings.

The reason the broswer gives this error is because of the some what new feature that Microsoft has place in IE to cut down on spam and viruses.

If this was what your test.html file had in it and it still gave you the error then I don't what is wrong. Try your site on another computer because it might be your broswer.

if you add a doctype that might stop it, IE relies heavily on the doc type definition to know how it should display a page.

IE and FF are both good browsers. FF has had more security fixes than IE over the past year, but they both have acceptable security features. Some websites don't work with FF. Some websites are broken with IE and FF.

Both adhere to standards, but www standards for browsers are a work in progress.

If you are building websites, make sure they work with IE and FF, and with Safari if you want mac people to enjoy your site. There are good tools around to make stuff work with different browsers.

Some people have both browsers. Use the one you like best and don't forget to keep it well patched.

I would try updating a few things.

First, make sure you have visited windows update and that you have the latest version of IE installed.

Second, make sure your IE plugins, such as Adobe flash, shockwave player, Java platform etc. are all up to date.

Third: Yes Jeffo there are other browsers like Mozilla Firefox, which is in my opinion better than IE. HOWEVER, some sites are written solely for IE, which the asker is having trouble with. For netflix, I'd try re-installing the netflix movie viewer program.

I have a weird problem with my Dell E1505 laptop, running Vista Ultimate. I have a wireless network in my house and it works quite well. However, on a pretty regular basis I lose the ability to access the Internet with a browser. I do not lose the connection and it says I have "local and internet" access, but nothing on the browsers. To make it really confusing, if I have uTorrent running at the same time, it does not lose the access! it keeps downloading/uploading as if nothing was wrong. Most of the time turning the wireless off/on fixes the problem, but sometimes I have to reboot. This is the second router with the same problem, so I am assuming it is something with the laptop or the laptop's settings. Any ideas? thanks.

if the internet cuts off again, try doing this:

go to start then run

type ipconfig /flushdns

it will clear the dns name list thingie, im not sure of the word

if it doesnt reconnect, it's probably nothing i can help you with.

Ad-Aware isn't an anti-virus program so it won't catch the google redirect virus you have. Download, use, and keep updated a quality antivirus program like AVG.

Can you tell what weird place it redirects you to? From what you're explaining, it might be a trojan or spyware that has taken over your browser
While you run Ad-Aware multiple times (once might not cut the mustard, you might need to run it over and over again), go get Spybot, HiJackThis!, CW: Shredder. These should be able to get rid of your viruses. If not, then I suggest using a different browser (e.g. Opera, Firefox) or reinstalling your OS.

For anti-virus, get FreeAVG which is available on majorgeeks.com, or on AVG's website.
Odds are good your system is infected. I ran quite a few scanners, including WindowsDefender, and AVG, and none of them found anything.

See if you have a 'zip' item in the HKLM\Software\Microsoft \Windows\CurrentVersion \ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad key of the registry. I deleted this 'zip' item, rebooted, and then deleted what had been pointed to by the item (a classid which in turn points to a zip.dll file in the %WINDIR%\Installer\* folders. Good Luck
